GOV DICKSON STRESSES NEED FOR INTERNAL DEMOCRACY


Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson said on Friday in Yenagoa that the state chapter of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP) would uphold the tenets of internal democracy as enshrined in the party’s constitution, expressing delight over the conduct of the party’s primaries for the forthcoming local government election.

Receiving members of the PDP National Electoral Committee in his office, Hon. Dickson said necessary machinery has been set in motion at ensuring the conduct of a hitch free local government election in 2013, calling for the active participation of all the stakeholders.

Stressing that the party is more united than ever before, he noted that the state chapter of the PDP has demonstrated its commitment to consensus building as well as the protection of women rights and expressed satisfaction with the preliminary reports from all the wards that the party would achieve about 35 percent affirmative action for women in the state.

Expressing delight over the visit of the Committee to monitor the primaries, the Governor assured them that no stone would be left unturned at ensuring that level playing ground is provided for all the contestants, irrespective of their party affiliations.

On the need for active participation of women in the polity, Hon. Dickson said the state chapter of the party would uphold the 35% affirmative action for women as enshrined in the constitution, calling on the women to embrace the gesture by contesting for elective positions.

Earlier, the leadership of the committee; Hon. Solomon Edojah and Bernard Mikko had commended the efforts of the leadership of the party in the state, especially the ongoing electoral process at the local government level.

Reiterating the commitment of the party to the growth of the nation’s democratic rule, the visiting members of the Election committee said the PDP remains the only party in the Country that upholds the principle of internal democracy.

We have witnessed justice, and service has been rendered as all the 315 delegates that took part were democratically elected.
Describing Governor Dickson as God sent, the committee members commended him for taking the state to the next level, adding that the good work that he has started would be completed.
