GOV. DICKSON WANTS STATE UNIVERSITY TO BE SELF-SUSTAINING, PLEDGES REORGANIZATION

Governor Seriake Dickson says the dream of his administration is to build a state university that will be self-sustaining in future.
The Governor stated this when he received the report of the Visitation Panel to the state owned Niger Delta University in Government House, Yenagoa.

According to him, “the situations where the university authorities go cap in hand to source for funds do not augur well for the state”.
Hon. Dickson expressed appreciation to the members of the Panel for doing a brilliant and extensive job, noting that the comprehensive report justified the confidence reposed in them.

“Government judged rightly to select you all as members of the visitation panel.
“We will set up a committee to peruse the report”, he remarked.
Pointing out that NDU remains the pride of the state, the Governor disclosed that steps will be taken to reorganize the visitation to be the best.
He also announced that he has sent a bill to the state House of Assembly to amend the law establishing the Niger Delta University (NDU), adding that the visitation panel, which is the first of its kind to the university, was constituted to put the institution on the right track in line with the educational and developmental aspirations of the state and country.

The Governor equally stated that consultations are currently going on in respect of the calibre of persons to be co-opted into the NDU Governing Council, noting that the Governing Council will be inaugurated soon.
Commenting on the highlights of the report, Hon. Dickson said government will do all it can to correct all the negative actions taken by the management of the institution.

Earlier, the Chairman of the NDU Visitation Panel Alabo Ombu-Kieri had urged the state governor to make good use of the seven volume report which highlighted overpayments for projects, mismanagement of funds for supplies as well as excessive financial payments made as transportation cost as well as the absence of key infrastructure in the university among other critical challenges.
